Inside Briar Hill
Perched on the elevated ridge that runs between 14 Street NW and 19 Street NW, Briar Hill is one of inner-NW Calgary's longest-established prestige pockets, and many of its bluff-edge streets look out over skyline and city views. The community's build-out dates mainly to the 1950s; decades of renovation and rebuilding have followed since, yet the original mid-century bungalow character still shapes much of the streetscape.
The current housing stock is a deliberate blend: 1950s originals still owned by longtime families, mid-century rebuilds, and a steady wave of substantial modern infills replacing teardowns on the best view streets. Lots run generous by inner-city Calgary standards, with 60-70' frontages common, and homes along the bluff edge routinely command a meaningful premium on resale.
For public schooling, Briar Hill School (CBE) handles K-6 right within the community, while William Aberhart High School (CBE) covers grades 10-12. Getting around is easy: SAIT Polytechnic is roughly a 5-minute drive south, the University of Calgary is about 10 minutes northwest, and downtown is a 12-minute drive along 14 Street NW. Confederation Park is close enough to reach on foot, just north of the community.
Expect prices to start around $625K for an original bungalow and run past $1.5M for new-build infills, with the largest custom builds and view homes occasionally topping $1.8M. Most buyers here are established families, households tied to U of C or SAIT, and a fair number of downsizers moving off larger NW lots. If you're weighing alternatives, Rosedale, Rosedale, and Capitol Hill are worth a look too.
