Lake Winnipeg is Manitoba's largest recreational lake — with beach communities at Grand Beach, Gimli, Winnipeg Beach, and Hecla Island. Yes. Manitoba's LTT starts at 0.5% on the first $30,000 and rises to 2.0% on amounts over $200,000. On a $500,000 lakefront cottage, the LTT is approximately $8,500. First-time buyers can claim a rebate of up to $4,500. Manitoba's waterfront remains significantly more affordable than Ontario's cottage country despite the LTT.
What waterfront types does Manitoba have?
Manitoba has freshwater only — no ocean frontage. Lake Winnipeg (the world's 11th-largest lake) dominates the recreational market. The Interlake region has dozens of smaller lakes.
