Why is it a reservoir?

Created by the Hugh Keenleyside Dam (south of Castlegar) and Mica Dam (far north). The Columbia River was dammed in the 1960s under the Columbia River Treaty. Original communities (Renata, Edgewood, etc.) were flooded.
