Why was it renamed?
'Queen Charlotte Islands' was the colonial name. 'Haida Gwaii' means 'Islands of the People' in the Haida language. Officially renamed in 2010 as part of the Haida Reconciliation Agreement. Both names are still in use.

Haida Gwaii is accessible by BC Ferries from Prince Rupert (7-hour sailing) or by air via Sandspit Airport. Remote — buyers value the wilderness and cultural depth. Limited but premium real estate market.
