Living in Chinook Park
Chinook Park, tucked into the inner southwest along Macleod Trail between Heritage Drive and Glenmore Trail just north of Heritage Park, is one of Calgary's quieter established pockets. Most of the community took shape through the 1960s, giving the streetscape the settled, tree-lined feel of a neighbourhood that finished growing decades ago.
The housing stock leans heavily on original 1960s-era bungalows and split-levels on standard-sized lots, and a good number of them have since been substantially renovated. Over the past ten years, a steady wave of detached infill construction — replacing older tear-downs — has quietly reshaped block after block.
Chinook Park School (CBE) handles the K-6 catchment, and public students move on to Henry Wise Wood High School (CBE) for grades 10-12. The neighbourhood practically borders Chinook Centre, Calgary's largest enclosed shopping mall, right at its northern edge. Heritage Park, the pathway along the Glenmore Reservoir, and the Heritage LRT station are all within easy reach.
Prices generally span $625K for an original bungalow up to $1.2M for a new infill, and the largest custom-built homes occasionally push past $1.4M. It's a community that tends to draw established families, infill investors, and downsizers coming from bigger inner-SW lots. For comparison, take a look at Kelvin Grove, Kingsland, and Windsor Park.
