Getting to Know Airdrie

Just north of Calgary along the QE2 highway, Airdrie has grown into its own satellite city, with a population that has more than tripled since 2000. It carries an identity distinct from Calgary itself — a small-town downtown core, family-oriented neighbourhoods, and a notably large share of residents who commute into Calgary but deliberately chose Airdrie's smaller-city feel over the inner-Calgary suburbs.

The housing mix is intentionally broad across Airdrie's neighbourhoods, which include Bayside, Kings Heights, Cooper's Crossing, Reunion, Windsong, Williamstown, Hillcrest, and several others. Newer detached construction generally prices between $475K and $750K, while more established pockets bring bungalows and split-levels into the $400K-$600K range. On the city's western and southern edges, buyers will also find larger, acreage-style estate properties.

Public schooling falls under the Rocky View Schools division, and grades 10 through 12 are covered citywide by George McDougall High School and Bert Church High School. Genesis Place Recreation Centre functions as the city's main recreation hub, while Nose Creek Park is where residents gather each year for the Festival of Lights and the Airdrie Pro Rodeo.

Price points generally start near $400K for townhomes and climb toward $750K for detached homes, with a handful of estate-scale properties occasionally topping $1.2M. Most buyers here fall into a few groups: young families, Calgary commuters, and households priced out of Calgary proper who are drawn to Airdrie's relative affordability and small-town character. Via the QE2 highway, the drive into north Calgary employment areas usually takes 25-30 minutes. For comparison, take a look at Cochrane, Chestermere, and Okotoks.
