Presqu'ile and the north shore
Brighton, in Northumberland County, is the gateway to Presqu'ile Provincial Park — a boomerang-shaped peninsula reaching into Lake Ontario with a 2.5 km sandy beach, 16 km of shoreline and woodland trails, and the largest protected marsh on the lake's north shore.
Presqu'ile Point carries an 1840 lighthouse, the second-oldest still operating on Lake Ontario's north shore, and the park is a renowned spring and fall migration hotspot with hundreds of bird species recorded.

Beach-town living
Brighton trades on that beach-and-park setting: swimming, paddling, cycling and birdwatching, with the Waterfront Trail running through town. It's an easy reach east of Cobourg and within the Quinte region.
Waterfront and water-view properties range from in-town homes near the harbour to shoreline cottages, generally more attainable than the GTA lakeshore an hour or so west.
