A four-season beach town
Port Elgin is one of the two main centres of Saugeen Shores on Lake Huron, at the base of the Bruce Peninsula and about three hours from the GTA. It's known for roughly 3 km of fine sandy beach and some of the best sunsets on the Great Lakes.
Unlike purely seasonal spots, Saugeen Shores is a genuine four-season community where most businesses stay open year-round — anchored by a harbour, a long boardwalk and a steady local economy tied partly to nearby Bruce Power.

Between Port Elgin and neighbouring Southampton the area boasts a dozen beaches and two harbours, while the Saugeen River — said to be Ontario's best trout and salmon run upstream of the lake — offers canoeing and fishing.
Waterfront ranges from beachside homes and cottages to in-town properties a short walk from the sand, generally more attainable than southern-Ontario cottage country and increasingly a year-round market.
