Wawa wraps around Wawa Lake in the Algoma District, just east of Lake Superior and about 2.5 hours north of Sault Ste. Marie — close enough to reach, remote enough to feel like your own corner of the north.
The town grew up around an 1897 gold strike on Wawa Lake, and that frontier energy still lingers — along with the famous 8.5-metre Canada Goose that has greeted travellers since 1960.

Wawa Lake is the everyday waterfront — boating, swimming and ice fishing right from town, with cottages and year-round homes along its shore. A few minutes west, Lake Superior's Sandy Beach unrolls a spectacular stretch of sand and surf.
This is a four-season outdoors community: kayaking and camping in summer, snowmobiling and ice fishing once the lake firms up. Waterfront inventory is limited and turns over slowly, so it pays to watch the market.
