Nakina is a community of about 500 in the Town of Greenstone, Thunder Bay District, founded in 1913 as a railway town — its name an Indigenous word meaning “meeting place.” The entire neighbouring town of Grant was once moved by flatcar to the Nakina site, roundhouse and all.
Today it's a renowned fishing base: more than 40 drive-in and fly-in fishing and hunting resorts operate from the Nakina area, reaching deep wilderness lakes.

The lakes around Nakina yield walleye, northern pike, whitefish, brook trout and lake trout — classic Northern Ontario fishing country, much of it accessible only by float plane.
Waterfront here ranges from in-town and roadside lake properties to remote outpost cabins; this is a market for anglers, hunters and wilderness seekers more than cottage commuters.
