Kenogamisis Lake
Geraldton spreads along the shore of Kenogamisis Lake on Highway 11, roughly 275 km northeast of Thunder Bay. The lake is a sprawling, island-dotted waterfront popular for boating, walleye and pike fishing, and lakeside cottages.
Greenstone was formed in 2001 from the former towns of Geraldton and Longlac and the townships of Beardmore and Nakina, knitting together a string of lake communities.

Gold built Geraldton in the 1930s, and gold is back: the billion-dollar Greenstone Gold Mine just southeast of town poured its first gold in 2024 and reached commercial production that November — the first gold mining here in roughly fifty years.
