The Robson Valley runs approximately 160 km between the Rocky and Cariboo Mountains, carrying the upper Fraser River south from its headwaters near Yellowhead Pass toward Prince George. McBride occupies the middle of this valley — the main community in a stretch of BC that most of the province has never visited and most maps reduce to a blank space between Jasper National Park and the Interior Plateau. In summer, the access roads into the Cariboo Mountains open routes to backcountry that would take weeks to reach from any other direction.

McBride's population has contracted from its peak, and the village's affordable property reflects that reality honestly. Highway 16 — the Yellowhead Highway — runs through the valley, connecting McBride to Prince George 220 km west and to the Alberta border 85 km east through Valemount. For buyers seeking a working valley community with genuine wilderness at its edges and property prices that make the Okanagan look extravagant, McBride is an honest answer that most BC buyers haven't considered.
